A Dream Come True! 7/19/18I am completely blown away. My manuscript THROWN won the Romance Writers of America® Golden Heart® for Contemporary Romance! This is absolutely a dream come true, and I'm at a loss for words. (Quite a feat, those who know me will tell you!) Thank you to every person who helped me reach that stage, my work is better because of you.

Am I Dreaming? 3/21/18
The amazement hasn't completely worn off yet (I'm fairly well certain it never will), but my hands have stopped shaking enough that I can type - I got the call! I'm a DOUBLE Finalist in the Romance Writers of America® Golden Heart® Contest! My manuscripts CAUGHT ON FILM and THROWN both finaled in the Contemporary Romance category! Thank you to every single judge to selflessly volunteered their time to this contest.

So Fast, But Not So Furious 1/12/18
Well! I have never written so so many words quickly in my life, but the first draft of my newest manuscript is DONE! Deadlines have quite the way of inspiring productivity. Now I get to start polishing! Right after I take a nap for the next two weeks.

Today's news heading is one of my heroine's favorite exclamations, and boy, is it fitting. I just found out that LOVE IN FOCUS is the winner of the Single Title category in the 2017 TARA Contest! After all the struggles to get this story on the page, this win holds a special place in my heart. Thank you again to all the judges, contest coordinators, and the TARA Chapter of RWA®!

Back to the Races (So to Speak) 7/24/17
Editing is complete (for now) on my food truck lovers, which means it's back to the land of horses and healing! There's so much story left to share, and I couldn't be more excited about it!

Hundreds of romance authors are staring anxiously at their phones today, waiting for the call that will change their lives in the best way - by bringing new friends into it. I don't have a horse in the race this year, but good luck to everyone who does!

Pass Me the Red Pen 11/15/16
Words have been flowing surprisingly well on my new manuscript, but I'm hitting pause on this new couple and head back to my last set of lovers with the fresh eyes of a few months away. There's nothing like the energy of bringing a story into the world for the first time, but there's something special about polishing that story until it shines in a way that's worthy of its characters. Time to get to work!
Onto the Next! 7/31/16
After a solid year of writing, I finally typed THE END on my latest manuscript! I love these characters, but man! They didn't make telling their story easy on me. Now a break and then the editing process will begin. In the meantime, I'm diving into the world of horses with a heroine who's been calling to me for the better part of two years. I'm so pumped to tell her story!

The Elusive Author Pokes Her Head Out of the Cave... 8/30/15
Well, it's been quite an eventful (and busy!) couple of months. In June, I signed with my awesome-sauce agent, Rebecca Strauss. July was spent in a flurry of writing (and deleting and writing and deleting some more) until I flew off to the RWA® National Conference in NYC. An amazing time was had by all, and major congrats to all the RITA® and Golden Heart® Winners! Then it was back home to finish the newly-renamed novella, power through edits to send to my agent, and start the party all over again with a brand new manuscript! It's a many-splendored life when you get to do what you love.
Shiny! 6/13/15
My Golden Heart® pin and invitation to the RITA®/Golden Heart® reception at the RWA® National Conference arrived in the mail today! There was much booty shakin' happy dancing at the mailbox, much to my husband's confusion and amusement. As if that wasn't exciting enough, my dress for the awards ceremony arrived today as well. I can't believe the conference is only a month away. It's all getting real now, kids!

Here We Go! 4/23/15
After a month of editing and polishing, my hands are in the air and I'm ready for the plunge back into the querying process. Then it's time to hang out with my novella characters, who've been very patiently waiting for their happily ever after. Love and excitement all around!

Challenge Managed! 3/12/15
Beyond all odds (of which there were many here in Chez James), I actually did it, I wrote a short story that's less than 7,000 words! I've submitted it for consideration in RWA®'s second anthology, so now I just have to find something to occupy myself until May when they announce the stories chosen for inclusion.
